Three Violins
The noted musician, filmmaker, and video artist Tony Conrad will present his new work "Three Violins." Conrad is an exceptionally interesting and important figure in contemporary experimental art. In the 1960's he was associated as a violinist with such legendary ensembles as the Theater of Eternal Music and the Velvet Underground, thus making important contributions to the development of minimal music. In addition, his 1965 film "The Flicker" is a seminal work in experimental cinema, and has been followed by numerous video works. Conrad now teaches video at SUNY Buffalo, and performs around the world.

Misha Mengelberg
Misha Mengelberg has been a pivotal figure with the Dutch improvised music scene as a pianist, composer, and bandleader over the past four decades. His piano playing draws on the harmonic and rhythmic structures of Thelonius Monk (and before him Ellington and Basie) and Herbie Nicols, but the range of influences he brings to the music goes well beyond jazz. Mengelberg was the founder of the indescribably eclectic Instant Composers Pool (ICP) Orchestra, a showcase for his idiosyncratic compositions and dynamic free and conducted improvisations. He has performed and recorded extensively with Han Bennink, George Lewis, Peter Brötzmann, and Steve Lacy to name a few.
