Rubble on Spruce
Premiere: Rubble on Spruce: Live experimental and improvised music. Battery Operated with e33 (bass and electronics) and Hans Fjellestad (synthesizer). Battery Operated construct concrete beats and video work for architectures that don't exist. They have recently completed an album with Gescom (electronics played by an improvisational jazz trio and freaked by digital dustbin men) which will be released this year on Skam. Battery Operated also have a conspiracy remix album coming out on C0C0S0L1DC1T1 this year (with contributions from Sachiko.M, Richard H Kirk, Gate, Frans De Waard, Mathias Delplanque (Lena, Bidlo) amongst others. Battery Operated appear on the next BipHop compilation, ACCA compilation and have 3 albums scheduled for release in 2002. The performance they will be doing at Spruce Street Forum on Wednesday, March 6th will be a live digital deflowering of a project undertaken with the improvisational jazz trio Sandoz Lab Tecnicians (New Zealand). A set was recorded and subsequently remixed and rebooted into a busted beats and noise work.

Ellis and Plimley
Lisle Ellis, bassist, composer, improviser from San Francisco/San Diego and Paul Plimley, pianist, composer, improviser from Vancouver, BC Canada. These two musicians have performed together for twenty years, recorded 10 CDs together as well as numerous CDs individually. Penguin Guide to Jazz raves: "Ellis favors blunt, elemental lines when plucking the strings, but his arco work is as ethereal or grave as the music demands; Plimley seems to see some of the tunes right to the end from its first notes, and there's the kind of inevitability about each of the improvisations which is the hallmark of great free playing."

Brötzmann/Eneidi/Krall
Peter Brötzmann, saxophonist from Germany; Marco Eneidi, saxophonist from San Francisco; Jackson Krall, drummer from Detroit. Brotzmann is a central player in the European improvised (free jazz) scene since the 1960's. He is loud, aggressive and truly wonderful. Jackson Krall has been in NYC since 1975 performing with peers on the "downtown" music scene ever since. He has performed and recorded with Cecil Taylor since the mid-1990's and also played in trio and quartet setting with Alan Silva since 1999. Marco Eneidi's saxophone playing is both virtuosic and and energetic without giving up any of the amazing tone for which he is rightly lauded.
